From the Principal
I am pleased to provide you with the Governor John Carver Elementary School’s report card for the 2004-2005 school year. It contains a great deal of information about our school.
Our staff is highly qualified:
¨ All of our professional staff members are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
¨ All of our academic teachers are “highly qualified” according to the federal definition, meaning that they have demonstrated competence in the subjects that they teach.
Our students perform well:
¨ A higher percentage of Governor John Carver Elementary third graders scored in the Proficient category on the 2004 MCAS Reading test than students statewide.
¨ In the 2004 English Language Arts test, our fourth graders scored the same as the state when the Advanced and Proficient scores were combined.
¨ In the 2004 mathematics test, our fourth graders scored slightly higher than the state when the Advanced and Proficient score were combined. According to the state, Governor John Carver Elementary students are making “Adequate Yearly Progress” on the MCAS. The state rated Governor John Carver Elementary School’s results as “High” in English Language Arts and “Moderate” in mathematics.
We will continue working hard to show more improvement in Reading, English Language Arts and Mathematics, as highlighted in our School Improvement Plan. Our staff continues to participate in professional development throughout the school year and summer to enhance instructional strategies that will increase student achievement.
Sincerely,
Pat Sullivan
