Community and School

Situated in a growing, rural community in southeastern Massachusetts, Carver High School serves 595 students, grades 9-12.   The well-maintained building and grounds, constructed in 1987, offer exceptional opportunities for teaching and learning.

Equipped with a state of the art language laboratory, a planetarium, and spacious classrooms, Carver High School offers a strong academic program as well as opportunities for student involvement in a wide-range of athletic and co-curricular activities. The guidance staff provides both post-secondary education and career counseling. In addition, the Ramsey Library Media Center, “The Learning Laboratory,” continues to expand its print and electronic resources, offering students and teachers a quiet space for development of group presentations, independent study, and access to the Internet.

Carver High School currently operates on a 7-day cycle of rotating 58 minute classes. Students and staff have welcomed the higher standards set by the Massachusetts Department of Education through the Curriculum Frameworks, finding ever-increasing opportunities to improve instruction and student learning. Carver High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

As of 1999, final grades are reported numerically. The baseline for the calculation of G.P.A. at C.H.S. is based on grades earned in College Preparatory classes. These grades are converted by the computer to a 4.0 scale. Because of the increased demands and rigor of Honors and Advanced Placement classes, these classes are given additional weight on the 4.0 scale. Grades earned in Honors classes are given an additional weight of 0.5. Grades earned in Advanced Placement classes are given an additional weight of 1.0. Grades earned in Applied classes are converted to 0.5 below the conversion for grades earned in college preparatory classes. Only grades earned in courses labeled as Applied, College Preparatory, Honors or Advanced Placement are used in calculation of G.P.A. Class rank is computed at the end.
