Any student who enjoys singing is invited to join the Carver Middle School Chorus! Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Chorus classes meet for one hour five out of six school days. Choral students are encouraged to sing a variety of musical styles including: popular, classical, concert, musical theater, jazz, spiritual, and folk. Emphasis is placed on teaching healthy vocal technique, refining aural skills, and developing effective ensemble singing. The C.M.S. Extra Help/Festival Audition Coaching – Students who need extra help on music for class or would like help preparing for their SEMSBA and/or District Festival auditions are encouraged to come every Monday after school for free private instruction.Instrumental Lessons – All students who would like to take lessons on their primary instrument are welcome to join us every Tuesday after school for instrumental lessons. Seventh and eighth grade students who already play their primary instrument proficiently are invited to take lessons on a second ‘related’ instrument. All lessons will be taught by Mr. Teunis or leading members of the Carver High School Band and are free of charge.
Jazz Band – The Jazz Band will meet every Wednesday and Thursday after school and will rehearse a variety of jazz styles with emphasis on the ‘swing’ style. The Jazz Band will have public performances throughout the school year and will participate in a competition at the end of the school year.
District and SEMSBA Music Festivals
Every year the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Southeast District (MMEA) and the Southeastern Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association (SEMSBA) each sponsor a music festival. To participate in a music festival, students must prepare a specific musical work selected by the festival committee and audition before an adjudicator. If accepted to the festival, students get the opportunity to rehearse and perform a concert with other fine young musicians from southeastern Massachusetts! These festivals are exceptional musical learning experiences and are also a lot of fun! If you are interested in participating in either of these music festivals or have any questions, please see Mr. Teunis in A103 or e-mail us!

We are fortunate to have many fine private music instructors here on the South Shore and I have listed a few local music lesson centers and private teachers below for your convenience:The South Shore Conservatory Duxbury (781) 934-2731

In order to provide as many instrumental music opportunities for as many students as possible, the Carver Middle School Music Department will be accepting donations of musical instruments throughout the school year. If you have an instrument that is not being used and would like it to benefit a young musician, consider making a tax-deductible donation!
