IMPORTANT INFORMATION
REGARDING YOUR SIXTH GRADE CHILD!
12-26-07
Dear Parents
and Guardians,
I am pleased
to announce the advent of a new program for our 7th
grade students at Carver Middle School! With the support of our
community, parents and the Carver Public School District, we
will be bringing our 7th grade students to Camp
Bournedale in the fall of 2008. The question/answer format
of this letter will provide you with important information you
will need to know as your child progresses through the 6th
grade and into the 7th.
What
and where is Camp Bournedale?
Camp
Bournedale is the home of a week long, outdoor education program
/ overnight camp located on Herring Pond in Plymouth, MA.
Every year, middle schools from the area and beyond flock to
Camp Bournedale as part of their 7th grade academic
curriculum. The focus of the learning experiences center around
marine biology and use the local environment as an integral part
of the program of studies.
What
courses will our children participate in at Camp Bournedale?
The selected
course offerings include Coastal Ecology, Marine Lab, Pond
Study, Project Adventure, Lobster Tales, Native Cultures,
Rocketry, Plimoth Plantation, Arts, Cape Cod Canal and Whale
Watching. All classes have a very small teacher to student
ratio, and all of the learning experiences are hands-on and
activity based. Additional programs include presentations on
Reptiles and Birds of Prey.
What
types of extracurricular activities will our children
participate in?
Extra-curricular activities include basketball, street hockey,
soccer, tennis, fishing, karaoke, a magician show and line
dancing.
Where
will our children stay?
The camp is situated
on several acres of pond-front property. There are 17 cabins
that sleep approximately 8-10 children plus an additional space
for chaperones. Each heated cabin is equipped with its own
bathroom and shower facilities. The girls stay on one side of
the camp and the boys on the other.
