Carver Middle School
Supplemental Programs

2007-2008

In order to enhance the educational experience for our middle school students, the following programs are offered at CMS throughout the year.  Each program enriches the school environment by building teams, creating a healthy school community, increasing social awareness, making personal connections, teaching new skills and rewarding positive behavior.

Crusader Pride

Crusader Pride is an incentive program designed to encourage students to increase attendance, raise their grades and develop good work habits.  It also recognizes students for outstanding academic achievement.

Coaching Program

The Coaching Program identifies academically at-risk students and assigns a teacher “coach” to be the student’s academic guide.  Coaches and Coachees meet on a regular basis and focus on making personal connections in a one-on one relationship.  The progress of each student is monitored closely and a frequent line of communication between school and home is established.  This program is currently run by teacher volunteers in conjunction with the administration.  They should be commended for their commitment and donation of time.

Second Step

Second Step:  A Violence Prevention Curriculum is a social, emotional learning curriculum for pre-school to grade nine designed to reduce aggressive and disruptive behavior while promoting social and emotional competence.

Project Wisdom

Inspirational messages start off a student’s day at CMS.  Words that speak to character, confidence, citizenship and community are part of every day’s morning announcements.

Best Buddies Massachusetts

Best Buddies Middle Schools pair people with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships with their school peers.  This effort to bring disabled students into the social circles of non-special needs students helps to cross those invisible lines that sometime separate those with disabilities from those without.
